File revisions in Apollo projects
Files are a really important part of a project. In Apollo you can upload files to comments, messages and projects; this feature is critical as sometimes — as they say — a picture is worth a thousand words.
However, files attached to projects tend to change and evolve. That's where the concept of "File version", or "File revision", is really important.
The good news is that in Apollo you are now able to upload different versions of the same project file:
This will allow you to keep track of how a file has changed in the lifecycle of your project.
Note that files attached to comments and messages don't have revisions; this was a choice: with comments, you will probably end up attaching new instance of the file you are discussing in every comment.
Enjoy!

Revisioning is awesome!
Is it possible to upload a file to a contact as well (e.g. a CV or portfolio document)?

Hi Dan,
Not yet, but it's definitely something we are considering!

The last paragraph just makes no sense. Of course I'm attaching new files via comments. But that shows only where the center of attention is with files. It's in comments, messages etc - not in the files area.
The files area is nice to have when wanting to gain an overview what's been uploaded. Other than that I don't go there to just upload files there without attaching them to something. Plus, and now it's getting really weird: when I uploaded a file to the file area I can't even use it anywhere. I need to place links to the file area or tell people, that there's a new file somewhere. I still can't browse the file area when writing a new comment. Why should I even upload file-revisions when there's no useful way to include them into the workflow (which happens in comments and messages and NOT in the file area!)
You're getting struck in too many rules! A file is file. Let the user decide if and which files he want to revision. There is absolutely no need to make these decisions for the user!
(tl;dr: At the moment it's easier to send files via emails. I want to sort them in Apollo the way I want. File revisions are useless if revisioned files can't be used anywhere.)

Hi Hoffmann,
You have some very good points there. I too think that the files area needs some love.
I am passing your email on to the developers. In the meantime, please feel free to email us a list of what *you* feel we should change, exactly, to make things work!
Thanks,
Merc.
